Republicans paint Democrats as liberal obstructionists out of touch with the common people and beholden to radical environmentalists. The retort is that Republicans are in the pockets of “Big Oil” polluters set on raping the planet. Oil companies clamor for less regulation and more drilling. The public and Republicans agree but the Democrats say “hell no!”
Right now, House Republicans are engaged in a meaningless show, demanding “drill now!” Democrats ignore the plea, instead deciding they must “save the planet!” Meanwhile, oil execs softly chuckle all the way to the bank, again, and again and again.
Do oil companies REALLY want to drill? Of course not. OPEC and Congress have done for them what would be unlawful for them to do themselves–engage in monopolistic behavior, artificially limiting supply and inflating prices.
“Big Oil” is enjoying record profits. Drilling entails investment and risk. Drilling dry holes obviously loses money, but drilling gushers loses money too. Increased supply means lower prices and less profit, but if drilling is allowed, they must all join or they may be left behind. It is not in their collective interest to drill, but public relations demand they posture otherwise.
Environmentalists are certainly happy. Their opinions on the evils of oil are well enough known that they won’t be repeated here.
Government’s happy too. Record oil company profits mean record income tax payments. Republicans can pander to their base, Democrats likewise and polarized voters fume, blaming the opposition and/or "Big Oil."
As the fiddling continues, only the consumer gets burned.

A Surge of Their Own
The Washington Post editorializes that candidate Obama must alter his Iraq withdrawal strategy recognizing the recent successes and stabilization there. Is it strange this vessel of virtue undercuts the legs of their chosen candidate as he finally approaches the finish line?
Hardly! The Democrat nomination secured with the hearts and minds of the Party's left, the race to November now begins in earnest, moving the junior Senator's vestige toward the center. Obama's playbook will not be McGovern and Dukakis but Richard Nixon's "peace with honor." The extreme left may be angry as they are with the Democrat 110th Congress's failure to surrender in Iraq, but they will not sit out the historic opportunity to elect a African-American messiah of change, promise, hope and healing.
The dinosaur media will now eat its handpicked Republican candidate by painting McCain in the broad strokes of Bush III, and as every Conservative knows, it will be truthful reporting. There's little question that George Bush is repaying his political debts to the Arizona Senator for supporting his '00 and '04 campaigns. Bush's positions on "comprehensive immigration reform" and"global warming" "global climate change" are indistinguishable from Mr. McCain's. As genuinely heroic as his Vietnam exploits were, the old curmudgeon just can't generate enthusiasm in the Republican base. His victory will rely on the anti-Obama vote, a position he has sworn will not be curried!
So does Mrs. Clinton still hold sway in this election. Will she genuinely support Mr. Obama, or secretly sabotage and target '12? The Clintons are pragmatic politicians, and given the tarnish this campaign has placed on her's and Bill's stars, Hillary knows 2012 is eons away and not the answer. It's not VP that Hillary covets either but rather lifetime appointment to the US Supreme Court. Promised the first vacancy she will join the surge and bring home her constituency.

You Call this Science?
It is truly shocking how willingly people accept the political corruption of science. When data better fits the polemic, GLOBAL WARMongers change it or speculate an excuse dismissing it. At "silenced" Dr. James Hansen's direction, NASA is altering historic temperature records increasing the apparent rate of warming. The journal Nature recently rejected the mid-20th century cooling as an anomaly of measurement techniques used by US ships. The collective memory of that colder weather be damned!
Where have we seen this before? Stalin's Lysenkoism contributing to the starvation of millions and Nazi Germany's systematic murder of millions in the name of eugenics.
Now comes global warming alarmism–politics masquerading as science. A new breed of scientist is born–climatologists. Those preaching the party line are elevated to rock star status. Critics of the new truth are not climate "experts." They are "deniers" and "shills" for corrupt polluters working against the people's interest, but does anything in "Environmentalism" deliver power to the masses?
It is Communism through and through. Centralization of all power in the State, directed economy, limited consumption, dictated lifestyle, controlled thought, complete with indulged party apparatchik.
It can't happen here? Does any reader seriously believe that had photographs of 1945 Auschwitz been shown the German public in 1933, they would have believed such atrocities possible in their enlightened society?
Make no mistake. The core of "Environmentalism" is not just that man is in discord with nature but man is an anathema. There are too many people, continuing to grow like a cancer on the former Eden. We must be excised.
